Soybean Insulation? Polyurethane Foam!
By Gary Talbott
In today's insulation market place, the standard old economy fiberglass batts seem to be taking a back seat position. Recent advances in Building Science and Technology have helped to improve both how we insulate and what we use to insulate with. The demands on our energy resources continue to increase with new building starts on the rise. To meet those new demands and provide new energy is an extremely difficult task. Our increase on foreign sources of energy have made the situation even that more critical.
Recent technology has produced an insulation that takes a giant step in the right direction. Polyurethane Foam made from Soy beans! The oils of soy beans are used to replace the petro-chemical compounds of standard polyurethane. This combination produces extremely effective insulation which contains no formaldehydes and emits no VOC¹s or CFC¹s. It acts like petroleum-based plastic foam without the environmental side effects, using the annually renewable resource of soybeans.
Truly a home grown insulation! There are over 600,000 soy-bean farmers in the United States. This Bio-Based Insulation is applied by spraying liquid chemical components onto open wall, ceiling and floor surfaces. When applied the components quickly expand (100:1) to make a foam of millions of air pockets covering surfaces and filling cracks and voids and other areas that conventional methods can¹t touch. This product is semi-closed cell which allows it to be flexible enough to move with building expansion and contraction, but does not deteriorate or settle.
A professionally installed polyurethane foam insulation derived from annually renewable soybeans provides a building that is warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and free of drafts, dust, noise and condensation problems that plague other insulation systems. The next time you¹re holding a hot cup of coffee in a foam cup, think how effective foam insulation is! Bio-Based Soybean Polyurethane Insulation is the greenest, most environmentally friendly insulation in the industry.
